I am Mommy and Mom. Not only mom but homeschool mom. Not only homeschool mom but working homeschool mom. Not only working homeschool mom but writer and entrepreneur. I’m also a wife. And we have three dogs, a lizard, and a horse.
You get the picture.
This description may be much like yours or completely different. But it doesn’t matter, for you are Mom.
When my kids were little I described myself as a gorilla mom. You know what I mean. You’ve seen the videos of the little baby gorillas climbing all over their mom and she just sits there, moving them around when necessary. When she’s done with all that she’ll just get up, shake them off, and walk away for some “me time.” For she is Mom.
My husband and I used to watch the sitcom, Mad About You.
There is a moment in an episode in one of the later seasons that I’ll never forget. The couple in the show are expecting. (A baby.) They are discussing things they will do after the baby is born, and the husband mentions that the wife will be home taking care of the baby. She questions him, “Why? Because I’m the mommy?” And then it hits her: “I’M THE MOMMY!” She has this moment when she realizes that she will be responsible for her child and what that means. She questions whether she will know what to do or if she will have all the right answers. She knows her life will never be the same again. For she is Mom.
Every mommy has felt some fear.
If there is a mom out there who hasn’t felt a tiny bit of apprehension EVER in their role as a mom, then I would like to meet her and tell her she is lying. Or else ask her about her faith in God that can alleviate all her mommy fears.
That’s how I get through my days: the good days, the bad days, and the ugly days. Asking God for gorilla mom patience, lion mom strength, and owl mom wisdom. For I am Mom and He is God and that’s how I can do it.
